Relaunch

Replace your old website without losing your Google ranking.

In short

WebVoyage handles a website relaunch at the same fixed price as a new website: CHF 849, CHF 1'449 or CHF 2'199. We redirect every old URL with a 301 redirect to the matching new page. Your old site stays online until the new one is ready, and the switch takes a few minutes.

When a website relaunch makes sense

An old website does not have to look bad to be a problem. Businesses often notice only when someone calls to ask about an address that changed long ago. The signs below suggest it is time for a website redesign. If one of them applies, a conversation is worthwhile. If several apply, the site is probably holding you back more than it helps.

  • The site is hard to read on a phone, with tiny text and buttons
  • Pages load slowly, especially on mobile data
  • Opening hours, prices, team or address are out of date
  • Nobody in the business can edit the site any more
  • The browser shows no padlock because there is no SSL certificate
  • The previous provider can no longer be reached
  • The domain is not registered in your own name

The last two points carry the most weight. Without access to your provider and without the domain in your name, your online presence depends on someone else. If that person disappears, you can neither change content nor move the site. A relaunch is the chance to sort this out properly, before it becomes urgent.

What happens to your Google ranking and old URLs

Google knows the addresses of your old website, such as /contact.html or /services/windows. Some appear in search results, others in directories or old emails. If they simply vanish during the relaunch, visitors land on an error page. Google then sees a page that no longer exists and drops it from its results over time. We prevent this with a fixed procedure.

  • We record every existing URL of your old website
  • Each old URL is redirected with a 301 to the matching new page
  • We carry over the titles and descriptions of the old pages
  • We create a new sitemap so Google knows the new structure

A 301 redirect tells Google and the browser: this page has moved permanently, here is the new address. Anyone clicking an old link lands straight on the matching new page. That way, the path from an old search result to your new website is not lost. The redirects go live on switch-over day, together with the new site.

What we promise, and what we do not

Even with clean redirects, your Google ranking can fluctuate in the first few weeks after the switch. Google has to crawl and assess the new pages first. The redirects keep any loss small, but there is no promise. Nobody can guarantee a particular position, and neither can we.

The new site gets page titles, descriptions, a clear structure and fast loading, like every site we build. Results on Google take weeks to months to settle. For local searches, a Google Business Profile that you set up yourself helps as well. Make sure the profile and the new website show the same details.

Your old website stays online until the new one is ready

While we build, nothing changes on your current site. It stays reachable, and enquiries keep coming in. You can see the new website every day under a private link. We answer questions within 24 hours. Nothing goes live until you have approved it. On the agreed day, we switch over. The switch takes a few minutes and happens outside business hours.

We bring your existing text and images along

Your old website often holds content worth keeping: descriptions of your services, photos of the business, answers to common questions. We take this text and these images and rework them. Anything outdated we rewrite. Anything missing we add after our first conversation. Text and images are included in the fixed price, for a relaunch just as for a new site.

We are happy to use your own photos of the business. Where no suitable images exist, we provide them. So you do not need to collect a folder of material before we start. Our example websites show what the result can look like: a joinery, a garage, a painter, a bakery and a kebab shop. The businesses are examples, but the sites are fully built.

Getting the domain into your own name

With older websites, the domain is sometimes registered to the former web designer or an agency. That means you have no direct control over your own address on the internet. A relaunch is the moment to fix this: the domain should be registered in your name. We help with the transfer and tell you exactly what to do. You place the request with the old provider yourself.

If the transfer depends on the old provider, it can take some time. That is why it pays to start early. After launch you receive every login: domain, hosting account in your name and the complete code. With Business and Ultimate, the login to the editing area comes too. If you switch provider later, you take everything with you.

How a website relaunch works

The process is the same as for a new website, with two additions. We record the old URLs, and the redirects go live on the day of the switch. The same two people look after you from the first call until after launch. Each step is explained in more detail on getting a website built.

  • Conversation: thirty minutes by phone, in person or by video, free and without obligation
  • Quote: in writing, with a fixed price and delivery date, both binding
  • Content: record old URLs, take over and rework text and images
  • Build: you see the current state every day under a private link
  • Approval: nothing goes live until you approve it
  • Launch: a few minutes outside business hours, with all redirects active
  • First month: edits to text and images free of charge

Website relaunch cost at a fixed price

A relaunch costs the same as a new website. The three fixed-price packages apply, with text and images included. Starter for CHF 849 is a single page, online in 7 to 10 working days. Business for CHF 1'449 offers up to 7 pages, your own editing area, and German and English. Ultimate for CHF 2'199 adds hosting and maintenance for the first year.

If your old website has many subpages, Business is usually the right fit. The most important old URLs then each get their own new page as a target. Business and Ultimate go live in 12 to 14 working days. Compare all packages under our packages on the home page, and the total cost on website cost in Switzerland. For the time after launch, there is website maintenance for CHF 100 per month.

Questions about a website relaunch

Any loss can be kept small, but nobody can rule it out entirely. We record all old URLs and redirect each one with a 301 to the matching new page. We carry over titles and descriptions, and the sitemap is new. Short fluctuations in the first few weeks are possible. We do not promise any particular position.

The same as a new website: CHF 849 for Starter, CHF 1'449 for Business or CHF 2'199 for Ultimate. These are fixed prices, with text and images included. Redirecting the old URLs is part of the relaunch. Price and delivery date are set out in the written quote, and both are binding.

No. The old site stays online until the new one is ready. You can check the new website's progress every day under a private link. On the agreed day, we switch over. It takes a few minutes and happens outside business hours, so your visitors will hardly notice.

Then we move it into your name as part of the relaunch. We help with the transfer and tell you step by step what to do. You place the request with the old provider yourself. If the old provider is hard to reach, this can take longer. That is why it pays to start early.

Starter goes live in 7 to 10 working days, Business and Ultimate in 12 to 14 working days. The delivery date is set out in the quote. If the domain transfer depends on the old provider, that part can take longer. Your old site stays online until the switch.
